As you know, part of our job is to offer prison and arrest support. We have received a heads up that a comrade in Australia is in need of help to be able to pay fines after being charged with “wilful damage” against butcher shops. They have set up a fundraising page and we are encouraging everybody to not only share, but donate as much as they are able to afford to help out our comrade.

Another important thing to mention is the court trial of an activist that was detained during a disruption at McDonald’s. Court has summoned them on the 25th of July, and the group is asking for any worldwide solidarity actions people might want to do during that day, and to put a statement up and tag it with #disruptmcdonalds .

We received a text yesterday in relation to the solidarity actions via an anonymous email also asking for more radical, more concrete actions. Although from Unoffensive we do not promote or partake in criminal activity, we believe it is important for people to be aware of the call to action:

“Solidarity action.
Thursday 18th July, give a smashing hug to a McDonald’s near you. With someone on trial on the 25th for a McDonalds disruption we want international solidarity.
Hambacher forst also asked for solidarity against McDonalds. Also the uncountable number of animals and the rampant capitalist behaviour of the company needs not to remain unchecked.
Please include “#disruptmcdonalds” on the report and let people know it has happened the day after for max exposure via BiteBack or Unoffensiveanimal”

Finally, we would like to encourage everybody to spend half an hour today writing to Matthias, our comrade locked up in Switzerland accused of criminal damage on butcher shops, and to send them as much love and hugs as you can. Matthias does not have a postal address, but you can type a letter for them and send it to Solidarité avec nos camarades antispécistes détenu.e.s en Suisse via Private Message. It will take you five minutes, it will make their day.

News arrive from our comrades in Switzerland. Three people are in preventive prison accused of property destruction in relation to multiple actions against speciesist business after a wave of window breaking in Switzerland. They will be held for a whole month before seeing the judge, even though the police has no evidence that links them with the butcher windows targeted or any other actions. They are being isolated in order to keep them away from news, they are not allowed to receive letters and the lawyers have warned that more arrests are still possible. 

Meanwhile, an activist involved in a slaughterhouse blockade and open rescue of goats early this year has received their sentence and has to pay 10,000 Swiss francs in total. They have a gofundme and it would be appreciated if people donate and share as much as possible.

It is in times like this, when the state clamps down with repression overwhelmingly higher than the judges action that we need to realise they must be scared of the tactics. And it is in times like this that we should show solidarity the most.

Sven and Natasha were sentenced yesterday. Charged with “conspiracy to blackmail” on their involvement with the highly successful SHAC campaign, Natasha was given 2 years in prison suspended for 2 years (which means that her conditions will be horrible and alienating and that if she breaches ANY she could be sent to prison) whilst Sven was given 5 years in prison.

This is a show of the state repression and their protection of capitalism. This is another example of how the system works to protect itself, to put profit over anything else, to eliminate the threats.

Sven, Natasha and many others involved in SHAC were true warriors against vivisection. They were fearless and they were effective. They run a campaign so incredibly powerful that the government had to make up laws to stop them.

Don’t let the state win and do not let Sven or Natasha feel alienated.

UNTIL EVERY PRISON IS A LIBRARY.

Prison director Peter Krestev, who we have mentioned before in a previous call for solidarity for prisoners, is now attempting to stop symbolic protests for basic human rights in Bulgarian prisons by closing down the prison shop.

‘Prisoners have not been able to buy food or cigarettes for 4 days now. In reaction to this some prisoners have started a hunger strike demanding to meet the Ministry of Justice and representatives from the National Prison Authority.’

This morning we received an anonymous email from a British activist. We would like to quote a few of their words.

“Yesterday I was sentenced for going into “free range” broiler facilities, to film and expose the truth, of what free range really is. 

…

When I was arrested at my home it was done by 8 police officers, with 4 marked police cars outside my home and 2 of the officers were actually armed.
I was alone at the farm and 17 years old at the time.

…

It was a sentencing hearing for a guilty plea to “criminal damage”.

…

240 hours of unpaid work and an order to ‘Not linger within 200m of any private land where the intent is for the raising or slaughter of livestock for the next three years’, which makes me unable to even join a Save vigil.”

This is just one of the many examples of how the system works. The system will try to silence us, it will try to quiet us down and to make others blind to reality. The system will favour capitalism over any ethical standpoint. Profit over anything.

It is on us to retaliate and to show we are fearless. It is on us to stick our middle finger the the legal system, to the capitalist system and to the government structures. We are born free and leaderless. We are born without hierarchies.

Let this be your start to smash the barriers that we are forced to in society. Let this be the story that makes you realise we are not working within the system, but to tumble the system until it falls.

Smash all hierarchies, hierarchies between human and non human animals and hierarchies within society.
