SABOTAGING HUNTS: JANUARY ROUND UP

January is a harsh month. With the festive period over, combined with passing a mid-point in the hunting season, this month feels long and bleak. The especially cold weather at the beginning did see many hunts cancelling but hunting continued throughout the month as per, often in the presence of hunt sabs. As usual, we cannot cover everything but here are some highlights.

Devon County Hunt Sabs had a difficult start to the month. They experienced two separate kills by the Eggesford Hunt in the first week of the year, just days apart from each other. Despite their best efforts, hounds killed a Roe Deer on the 1st January and then a Fox on the 4th. As upsetting as this is, the group continued undeterred and kept pressure on multiple hunts throughout the month with good success.

How a hunt responds to presence of sabs varies of course. At their first Saturday meet of the year, the Grove and Rufford Hunt packed up almost immediately after attempting to hunt on foot, meaning a quick victory for Sheffield Hunt Sabs and local wildlife. It could be argued that this response is reflective of the morale of this hunt, who have been the targeted consistently for some time. With the job of huntsman being advertised online, it certainly seems that things aren’t going for the hunt.

Likewise, this was also seen in the deflated hare hunting pack De Burgh and North Essex Bassets who quickly packed up after being apprehended by Suffolk & Essex Hunt Sabs on two separate occasions. Though the sab group were forced to take action when hounds were caught chasing a hare, the hunt had no choice but to give up. Foot packs such as Bassets and Beagles are particularly vulnerable; hare hunting has less supportive infrastructure (they are advised by their governing body to pack up if saboteurs turn up), barely get any foot supporters (which means less money and less morale) and attempt to maintain a low profile (making logistics even more difficult). And if the success of this dedicated campaign against this hunt continues, as seen throughout this hunting season, it is not what a question of if they disband, but when.

Though they are vulnerable, it doesn’t mean they are any less capable. Northants Hunt Sabs received and published footage showing the Pipewell Foot Beagles killing a Hare, captured by a member of the public. According to the sab group, this hunt has been caught out multiple times throughout the season and are under police investigation. Though the outcome of this is yet to be seen, and the realistic impact and purpose of the authorities be rightly criticised, this undoubtably puts at least some pressure on the hunt. And every layer of pressure counts and can build up to something.

One element of pressure that can be applied is exposure. Due to the logistics of sabotaging a hunt, it is not always possible to fully intervene. This is especially true with terriermen, who can disappear quickly for periods of time and get up to something dodgy. However there can still be an opportunity to keep an eye on them, as seen by sabs from Kent who used a drone to locate and record terriermen netting and bagging a fox during a meet of the Kent Hounds. This evidence is extremely important in destroying the false rhetoric that hunting relies on to try and maintain a specific image. The bagging of a fox is a grim standard practice within the world of fox hunting, which gives them the opportunity for a guaranteed kill if the hounds are struggling to locate a fox themselves. Together with footage published by South Thames Hunt Sabs from that same day, showing hounds in cry in dense woodland and digging at the entrance of a badger sett, paints a clear picture of what hunting really involves.

Similarly, Northants Hunt Sabs caught terriermen getting ready to flush out a fox from a badger sett during a meet of the Cottesmore. They tactically placed themselves so they could gather the evidence, while remaining on hand to intervene if needed. In a post on social media, the group claimed that they took this decision as ‘showing exactly what happens when they think no one is looking is to drive a stake through the vampiric heart of the bloody Cottesmore’. Other evidence of digging out was also published by Cheshire Monitors which is believed to resulted in the killing a vixen, carried out during a meet of the Llansannan foot pack.

Cheshire Monitors are another good example of a group who are concentrating their efforts into a specific hunt. Throughout the month they have continued to maintain a presence at the Wynnstay Hunt, who have hired ‘security’. Regardless, they have been able to take action and expose the hunt them, including trespassing and killing two foxes on separate occasions (one of which was thrown onto an A road by terriermen). However, in a reflective social media post, they claim that they have had an impact against them over time due which is seen in how the numbers of mounted supporters have decreased by half. Some may see this as minor but it is important to note that this means that their main regular income stream has been cut in half. And hitting the hunts pocket will always make them more vulnerable in the long-term. Some victories (like a hunt disbanding) can’t always happen overnight, but are ultimately still important to pursue. Reaffirming their efforts, they also published nice trail camera footage of two foxes which have been previously targeted by the hunt.

Hertfordshire Hunt Sabs have once again exposed the Newnham Estate, dubbed ‘the plant farm’, which is the site of this year’s Vegan Camp Out festival. Earlier in the month, the sab group found two shooting pigeons on the estate but eventually packed up when they realised they could no longer continue. Around two weeks later, the estate was revisited and discovered a large shoot which was enough to require three gun buses. This estate has been exposed on multiple occasions for its direct use of hunting and shooting and isn’t the first time Vegan Camp Out have used a ‘venue’ that has this connection. For context, the organisers have previously banned hunt sabs from attending the event and have had the audacity to not only gaslight those exposing wildlife persecution and murder but also portraying it as something that should be accepted if people want an event to take place (as ‘all’ venues in the countryside are bad in one way or another) – a defeatist and untrue statement. The phrase ‘we don’t live in a perfect world’ continues to be thrown around and, though that there is large truth to that, it doesn’t mean we should not fight for it to be better.

Many things can be said, but we will keep it simple as we have better things to focus our attention on. If you want to support a business-orientated event (that hosts some extremely problematic speakers) so you have a nice time eating expensive vegan food and dance (on the graves of innocent wildlife) and accept this defeatist idea that there is ‘no alternative’, then go to Vegan Camp Out. But if you believe real obtainable goals can be achieved in the animal liberation struggle, making the ultimate difference to animals both in captivity and in the wild, see the results of our collective efforts and can create alternative you want to see, then Vegan Camp Out isn’t for you. Perhaps EarthFirst! gatherings, animal rights and liberation conferences and other grassroots events are more fitting.

Any information about hunts or shoots, wildlife killing fundraisers, the location of traps, tools and infrastructure used to kill and anything dodgy or suspicious relating to the interference or ill-treatment of wildlife should be reported to your local hunt sabotage group. Unsure of your local group? Contact the Hunt Saboteurs Association’s tip-off line at 07443148426 or via social media. The smallest bit of information could make the biggest different to wildlife life.

NO LIFE LIKE THE WILD

UNOFFENSIVE IS GOING ON A BREAK!

As you all know by now, UA is a volunteer run collective. We do our best to keep up with news about direct action and we try and help with prisoner support as much as we can, we don’t make money from it and do it because we care about counter info and about upholding a radical platform for people to connect and anonymously report what they’ve been up to.

But burnout sucks! And we’ve experienced many a times, with the collective shifting around and people quitting. We even reached the point of quitting not too long ago! We are approaching a whole decade of existence and do not want to get to the burnout stage again, so we are taking a couple of weeks off. This is not necessarily newsworthy, but we want to give a heads up because if anonymous people are sending reports the media links will likely expire before we check the emails, so do not submit anything until at least the 12th of February, we will be back on the 17th!

If on the other hand your reports can’t wait, remember that NAALPO has a system to receive reports too!

See you soon, remember radical self care, love your people, love yourself, cuddle some animals and please, keep fighting!

JANUARY DIRECT ACTION ROUND UP.

January has been a colourful month and really not the standard we are used to. This month there were no reports related to flesh/eggs/dairy industry, but activists around the world targeted hunting, entertainment, vivisection, the pet industry as well as a known animal abuser that had stabbed a horse to death. A total of 9 reports were received by Unoffensive Animal this month.

By country, these are the numbers of direct actions reported:

ITALY: 3
FRANCE: 2
USA: 1
UK:1
SWEDEN: 1
IRELAND: 1

The north of Italy ALF kept kicking hard as always, visiting three different hunting locations and destroying towers, traps and decoy cages. France’s second report of the year hit national news, with multiple press offices reaching out for comment. We can’t comment because we didn’t do it, so you don’t need to ask!

The UK saw the only reported liberation of the year, targeting the pet industry and rescuing guinea pigs.

Ireland was a bit of a misfit and we were not entirely sure where to categorise “threats to a convicted pedophile and horse stabber”, but nevertheless the Animal Rights Militia reported the action which seemed backed by the local press.

That’s all for January!

UA.

CONVICTED PEDOPHILE AND HORSE STABBER MARK MCGURK IS VISITED BY THE ARM AND URGED TO LEAVE TOWN.

10th December, Ireland.

Received anonymously via email:

“On the 10th December 2024, ARM Volunteers visited the residence of convicted paedophile and horse stabber, Mark McGurk, to inform him that he had 48 hours to vacate the property.

McGurk filmed himself stabbing a friend’s horse to death, which he later around social media. This was a revenge act, carried out Harry Evans’ horse, who is also a convicted foxhunting paedophile.

Our volunteers understand that the local community, as well as the animals, deserve to be protected from such wicked filth.

Upon gaining entry, Mr. McGurk was made to sit down in his living room, whilst an armed volunteer guarded the door. Mr. McGurk was not harmed but was given a warning that his behaviour is not wanted in Beragh village and that he must leave the area as soon as possible.

Whilst Mr. McGurk was receiving this news, he visibly urinated himself and at one point appeared to faint. Our volunteers ensured that he was awake and aware of what was going on and left quietly, rejecting his pleas and offers of cash.

Mark McGurk is a convicted child rapist and animal abuser – who decided to continue trading horses despite being banned from keeping them for seven years. The twisted pervert was best friends with the late Jonathan Creswell, a sick foxhunting psychopath who murdered young equestrian, Katie Simpson.

Despite Mr. McGurk claiming that he refuses to leave Bernagh, our volunteers are confident that he no longer sleeps at the property, and goes in and out during the daytime.

Having liaised with community activists, the matter is now in their hands and they will deal with him accordingly.

Our threat, along with the separate threat from community activists, remains in place and we strongly encourage Mr. McGurk to permanently vacate both Bernagh and Planet Earth.”

UPDATE ON THE CARA&CELESTE FUNDRAISER.

Cara and Celeste were arrested and accused of raiding a mink farm in the USA. Luckily after some legal pressure, their bail was lowered and they were able to be on the streets again awaiting trial, but the legal fees associated will be serious. PhillyABC launched a fundraiser so we decided to put together a team of artists (thank you, you four are amazing!) to sell some t-shirts and prints to raise funds for them!

After having sent all the tees and prints we can confirm that your donations have made a difference, we sent 2200 USD to the fundraiser thanks to all of your generosity.

Thank you again for getting behind the initiative and supporting the cause. It is thanks to you all that we can keep going with the project and we would love to organise similar fundraisers in the future if people think they are a good idea.

For anyone who missed the tee/print fundraiser, we still have a few prints left on our website, but please, consider donating directly to the fundraiser that Philly ABC is running, the goal is 75K and we are still well far from it!

THE ALF DESTROYS MORE THAN 30 NUTRIA CAGES.

26th January, North Italy.

Received anonymously via email:

ENGLISH (translation):

“For an A.L.F. activist, there is no more beautiful sound than the sound a cage makes when it shatters underfoot.

On January 25, 2025 we received a report of the presence of trap cages placed by the criminal human to catch and kill nutria.
On the 26th morning we promptly took action and destroyed more than 30 cages, some of them still stained with the blood of poor animals previously caught and killed.
The human is NOT superior to ANYONE and has NO right to take the lives of other living things.
The Struggle continues.
Get out, Liberate, Destroy.
A.L.F.”

“Per un A.L.F. non esite suono piu’ bello di quello che fa una gabbia quando si distrugge sotto i piedi.

Il 25 gennaio 2025 abbiamo ricevuto una segnalazione della presenza di gabbie trappola posizionate dall’umano criminale per catturare e uccidere nutrie.
Il 26 mattina siamo prontamente intervenuti e abbiamo distrutto piu’ di 30 gabbie, alcune delle quali ancora sporche del sangue di poveri animali precedentemente catturati e uccisi.

LEONARD PELTIER GRANTED CLEMENCY

Longtime political prisoner Leonard Peltier was granted clemency on January 20. Leonard will be able to spent the rest of his life sentence from his home, starting on February 18.

Leonard Peltier was arrested for a shootout in June 1975 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, in which two FBI agents were shot and killed. Although there is no evidence against him, and his two co-defendants were acquitted before his trial started, Peltier was convicted in 1977 by a racist court hand-picked by the FBI to get a guilty verdict. Other government misconduct during Peltier’s trial included coercion of witnesses, intentional use of false testimonies, hiding ballistics evidence, and manufacturing a murder weapon. Despite all of this, Peltier has been consistently denied requests for a new trial. Instead, Peltier has spent almost 50 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Today, Leonard is 80 years old, and he suffers from several health problems. On January 20, the outgoing Biden administration granted Leonard clemency, and he will be released from prison on February 18.

Over the years, many people and organizations have fought for Leonard’s release and freedom. We are now happy to hear of Leonard’s clemency and to know that he will finally be able to spend time with his family and friends, outside of prison walls.

”It’s finally over – I’m going home…”, Leonard said, in a statement released by the NDN Collective.

UNTIL ALL ARE FREE

ACTIVISTS DESTROY 22 HUNTING TOWERS, AGAIN.

10th January, Yonne France.

Received anonymously via email:

ENGLISH
During the second week of January 2025, in the North-East of France (Yonne), we destroyed 22 hunting towers in one night. Located on three different sites, some of these structures had already been destroyed a few months earlier. Hunting towers help hunters of Yonne to kill innocent people: they hide the hunters, enable them to shoot safely and prevent animals from fighting back. However, all it takes is a few saws to destroy them. So if you see similar structures in your area, put on your masks and take action.

We hope these actions will make it easier for our forest-dwelling comrades (wild boars, deers, birds, etc.) to escape their murderers.

PS: Hunters, you can rebuild them, we will come back.

CASO SUSARON STATEMENT, DECEMBER 2024

Below is a translation of two of the prisoners from Caso Susaron, translated from spanish:

We hope that our first words represent a push of strength for those who are doubting whether the value of their beautiful actions and their consequences make sense or not.

Two years and almost two months after our captivity, we continue to reaffirm that the path of war and confrontation, with all its bitterness and misfortunes, continues to be the only dignified way of life that we understand as valid.

UPDATE:
In recent months there have been several developments in our case.
Comrade Ru was sentenced to 5 years in prison, with the prosecution and the court denying the possibility of a supervised release on the grounds that he is a danger to society, with no intention of reinsertion.

At the same hearing, happily, comrade Tortuga was released to the street. Sentenced to 5 years of tagged probation, joining comrade Ita.

After some appeals that evidently failed, comrade Ru was transferred to the ex-penitentiary.

This transfer was carried out by the gendarmerie in violation of a court order that the comrade could not be moved until a report on the feasibility of transfer to La Colina was issued.

The comrade was received with open arms by the nihilist prisoner Hector Herrera, in 3C Street. In the overcrowding and discomfort that is lived in those facilities.

Days later, without any warning and with an absolutely arbitrary criterion, they transferred comrade Panda without warning from La Colina, where he was already settled after months serving his sentence, to the ex-penitentiary.

The report delivered by the gendarmerie justified the transfer of the comrade on the grounds that he would be a negative leader, a danger to the internal regiment of La Colina and that this prison would not have sufficient security to prevent a possible escape.

The next day, Panda is received by Ru and Hector in 3C Street.

We call to participate in all instances of solidarity. Since this new process requires a greater expense in parcels and in managing the intrapenitentiary benefits, meaning a great economic blow for family, friends and relatives.

To close this message: we are still here. Loving our successes and our mistakes, without regrets or hesitation. Clear that no trick of gendarmerie to hit our spirit will generate that we do not smile looking at the facts that led us to this place lost in time.

Today more than ever animal and total liberation! Veganism is war! Fire to existence!
