“A.L.F Locks Hunters Out Of Lake Colac For The Weekend
Last year a duck hunting season was announced despite a government inquiry that resulted in the recommendation that duck hunting be banned. Multiple actions were taken in response to this including direct action at Jacinta Allen’s office, a rifle club was targeted as well as numerous actions at lakes where hunting is allowed.
This year another season was green lit with an increased period of shooting and an increase in the daily limit of killing. The slaughter of ducks was approved for 83 days and 9 ducks per day per shooter.
Following a report of early shooting on the wetlands and wounded ducks, with video evidence, the A.L.F visited Lake Colac to lock up some gates, and leave some spikes for vehicles to eat up. We chained and locked a fence and for extra measures filled the gaps with expanding foam to make it harder to cut away. Road spikes were also left behind to hit vehicles on their way in for the weekend.
Hunters will be hunted.
In memory of our good friend and amazing activist Liz Dealey. Rest in power.
This action took place on land never ceded. We stand in solidarity with the First Nations people of the land who continue to face oppression.
We acknowledge that all systems of oppression are linked and we call for a free Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and all other lands facing the impacts of colonization. “
