“Unfortunately, with this text we have to do exactly what we do not want to do – place humans at the center.
Yet, for once, this is necessary in order to clear away a misguided line of thought.
We are not heroes!
Animal liberation is not an act of greatness. Not a triumph. Not a moment for heroic narratives.
Those who glorify liberations, who step into the spotlight for an act meant for others, once again make themselves the center.
That is precisely part of the problem: the human who liberates themselves while claiming to rescue others.
Animal liberation also means stepping back. Understanding one’s own action not as moral capital, but as a consequence.
The liberation of non-human animals must not and cannot be seen as a heroic act. Neither by those who took part in a liberation, nor by those who heard about it and/or read about it.
This elevation of actions and actors inevitably leads to the acts themselves – and once again the human animal – being pushed to the foreground, rather than those who should actually matter.
Non-human animals are once again degraded to a side issue, once again treated as mere accessories, even though they are individuals who deserve attention – for their fucking lives in the industry.
This dynamic must be exposed as a reproduction of relations of domination: liberation becomes a stage, suffering the occasion for human self-presentation.
With this publication, we do not want to celebrate ourselves, but to encourage others to think and to act.
Out of necessity, action was taken:
Six individuals were able to escape the exploitative system of humans.
They will never again be reduced to means of production.
They are allowed to live their lives self-determined.
We will be back.
