“On Saturday, December 13th, people hung banners above the highway. The banners were hung at highway exits leading to cattle collection points where the research group Ongehoord recently filmed footage.
These images show that (milked-out) cows and calves are systematically exploited and abused. The violent behavior of these cattle traders is not an exception to the rule, but a daily reality and an unavoidable part of the dairy industry. After all, cows will never walk into a scary transport truck on their own: they have to be beaten into it. However, the existence of the “supervisory authority” NVWA suggests that animal-friendly treatment is possible.
The government wants us to believe that these practices are being monitored, but the NVWA represents the interests of the animal industry and will always prioritize the economy. This will never resolve itself until you and I take matters into our own hands.”
