NO FACE, NO CASE, ON EGOS IN ANIMAL LIBERATION.

“Animal Liberation: A Fight That Needs to Remain Anonymous

Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in reports about actions taken in the name of animal liberation. It is encouraging to see more people getting involved in this cause, freeing animals, and sabotaging the operations of their exploiters. These reports often include photos taken during or after the action, showing the liberated animals or
activists with their faces fully covered. Despite face coverings, some reports are shared on social media by those responsible.

Many activists have been convicted for similar actions, often facing jail time or fines. Revealing the identities of individuals behind these actions makes no difference for the animals, but it does make a difference to the snitches, the cops, and the government. Such actions threaten capitalism and the state, as animals are seen as property for profit and power, driving them to punish those involved.

Animal liberation actions should be taken seriously, with the understanding that every move we make comes with responsibility and potential consequences. Yes, we know that a photo might seem more badass and attract more likes and views to a thread, but that is absolutely not the point. This is not a fight for us. This is not a fight for our egos. This is a fight for those behind bars, inside experimental labs, chained in yards, and used as tools for anthropocentric reasons.

We have seen cases where activists deliberately revealed their identities after an action, followed by calls for financial solidarity. Asking for money for an action that was intentionally exposed is deeply problematic. While revealing an identity doesn’t impact the animals, financial support is crucial for political prisoners, animal shelters, and animal rights groups.

We must acknowledge that not everyone faces the same reality when confronting the police and the justice system. Those from humble backgrounds often go unnoticed and lack financial support, overshadowed by others. It’s crucial to refocus our struggles and liberation efforts on putting the lives of animals back at the centre where they belong.”

[editor’s note: This writing was received anonymously and it does not necessarily represent the ideology of UA. For example, we do not believe that images of liberation are inherently ego-centred and we think that the visuals aid people to deeply connect with the animals rescued. We do agree that there is absolutely no point submitting anonymous reports and then publicly claiming them, and it is without a doubt an ego driven behaviour. We publish the text unedited because we think UA should be a platform of conversation too, so go forth and discuss!]

SABOTAGING HUNTS: DECEMBER ROUND UP – THE FRONTLINES

December is the busiest time in the fox and hare hunting calendar. In the run up to Christmas and until the festive break finishes in the new year, hunts can easily bump their numbers up in the form of foot followers and mounted riders. The latter is arguably more important to them as they pay to participate and securing this income stream is vital for the longevity of the hunt. The increased numbers also boost morale and often results is more boisterous, arrogant and, where they see fit, violent behaviour. Saboteurs and the wider anti-hunting community also rally together in bigger numbers and are more active during this period, which has had a mixture of results with far too many reports to include. But here are some highlights.

The tyres of Sheffield Hunt Saboteurs were found slashed one morning before heading out but were still able to get a team out to the Grove and Rufford Hunt thanks to the assistance of Nottingham Hunt Saboteurs. Frustration got the better of one member of the hunt who stole equipment and, when confronted, headbutted a member of the team, but finished the day without a kill.

South Thames Hunt Saboteurs seemingly received the worst of the violence after they were attacked by the Hursley Hambledon Hunt after their attempts to hunt and kill a fox were ruined. According to their reports, a team of 3 were set upon by 9 and resulted in one of their team needing medical attention due to a serious head wound, while another came away with a swollen face and black eye. A camera and mobile phone were also stolen. Though it was a traumatic experience, they later published their appreciation for the ‘overwhelming’ support they had received since publishing what had happened, as well as starting an online fundraiser. They initially wanted to raise £320 to replace the stolen equipment and to purchase a quality first aid kit but had reached £8000, which they state will be used to buy a vehicle for their new group. In a final update, they announced they were no longer accepting donations and strongly encouraged generosity to continue elsewhere, suggesting foodbanks, other sabotage groups and etc, but specifically highlighted the support needed for Happy Pants Ranch. The sabotage group concluded; ‘we make our intentions clear and known; we will not stop until hunting is finished. It is what the community wants and it is what wildlife deserves.’

It is widely believed that the behaviour of the Hursley Hambledon Hunt was also due to being caught killing a deer the week before, as seen by South Hampshire Hunt Saboteurs and has prompted attention by the police. South Wales Hunt Saboteurs also reported a fox had been killed by the Sennybridge Farmers and it was sudden. Another deer was also killed after they were quickly and unexpectedly mauled by hounds of the Thurlow Hunt despite the efforts of multiple sabotage groups present. Suffolk and Essex Hunt Saboteurs also reported that a deer was found dead in a woodland with fresh injuries after hounds of the Essex and Suffolk Hunt left. These are all examples that reaffirm the difficulty of sabotaging a hunt as well as how quickly it can escalate and how against the odds it can be for wildlife. The reality is that not all wildlife can escape this fate because of the presence of saboteurs. However, without them, many more would be condemned to death.

The vast majority of sabotage groups, if not all, were active on Boxing Day, which is the biggest day in the hunting calendar. Despite the challenges this comes with, as mentioned before, efforts against hunting were largely successful. Some were even reduced to stick to trail hunting; salt in the wound for those bitter about the changing landscape of hunting in recent years. Some violence was reported, including Brighton Hunt Saboteurs who were ridden at and whipped, as well as the Wight Hunt Saboteurs who were also ridden at and assaulted by a hunt supporter. Seemingly, levels of violence and aggression were relatively tame in comparison to previous years, though the usual pushing-and-shoving continued – especially during the parading of hounds where saboteurs and protesters continued to maintain a presence. Protesting the boxing day hunt has been a regular tactic for decades and usually attracts media attention and gives an opportunity for members of the public to show their disgust the ongoing persecution of wildlife. Specifically, pressure continued to be mounted on the hunts who are subject to dedicated campaigns against them, including Mendip Farmers Hunt, Cottesmore Hunt and Kent Hounds, though protests and sabotage against hunts was seen all across the UK with too many to mention. Though fox hunting is largely the focus of the day, hare hunting was also targeted, as seen by North Down Hunt Saboteurs who packed up Christchurch and Farley Hill Beagles as well as the Lake District Hunt Saboteurs who foiled the plans of the Black Combe Beagles. Cheshire Monitors also packed up the Cheshire Beagles who were caught hunting an exhausted Hare.

Other hare hunting packs have also been paid attention throughout December. The De Burgh and North Essex Hare Hounds, who have been successfully targeted a number of times in November, have continued to be stopped throughout this month by Suffolk and Essex Hunt Saboteurs, along with neighbouring groups. The Hunley Beagles were also visited by the East Yorkshire Coast Hunt Saboteurs, who quickly packed up on the arrival of opposition. Likewise, Severn Vale Hunt Saboteurs foiled the Severn Vale Beagles. But it didn’t stop there. Hare hunters were foiled right until the end of the month, as seen by Wiltshire Hunt Saboteurs who packed up the Royal Agricultural College Beagles on the 30th and a joint meet of the Radley College Beagles and the New Forest Beagles on the 31st, sabotaged by a number of groups.

It is worth noting that hare-hunting foot packs are especially vulnerable to sabotage as they have a diminishing support network, made worse by a lack of a reliable income stream and is generally seen as more controversial than fox hunting. It is believed that the guidance given to these packs by their governing body is to cease their activity and leave on the arrival of saboteurs. And that is exactly what they do. Therefore, simply turning up is enough to stop them.

The festive period is seen as a middle point for the fox and hare hunting season. As the vast majority of sabotage groups have remained consistently active for months (not including cub and leveret hunting), it is understandable that some are feeling tired. Messages of support, donations and purchases of merchandise go a long way in showing appreciation for what they do.

Any information about hunts or shoots, wildlife killing fundraisers, the location of traps, tools and infrastructure used to kill and anything dodgy or suspicious relating to the interference or ill-treatment of wildlife should be reported to your local hunt sabotage group. Unsure of your local group? Contact the Hunt Saboteurs Association’s tip-off line at 07443148426 or via social media. The smallest bit of information could make the biggest different to wildlife life.

URGENT CALL OF SUPPORT FOR HAMBACHER FORST!

Hambi has survived for a decade, but it is in danger. Back in September 2024 some people occupied Sündi, a once upon a time part of Hambi which now stands in isolation in between the largest coal mine in Europe and the remnants of Manheim village. RWE claims they need to dig the ‘Mannheim Bay’ in order to collect overburden material to stabilise other parts of the hole, but in reality they just want to dig more, and more and more until their time runs out.

Folks in Hambi fear that any day after the 6th of January might be eviction day, and that both Sündi and the main forest occupation in Hambacher Forst will be evicted, so they are asking for immediate support.

You can check their website for more information on how to get there here:

Read their call to action below:

“The industrial monster is at the door! The biggest pit in Europe – the Hambach Mine – is getting bigger day by day. A precious woodland we call “the Sündi” (once part of the Hambacher Forest) stands directly in its path, right next to the ruins of the former village of Manheim (which coal-giant RWE has also been laying to waste).

Since September the Sündi has been squatted! Where a world-eating coalmine was scheduled to expand, an autonomous zone has sprung up in its place, blocking the expansion of the pit and the system of death it powers. But now we have the news that the state will attempt an eviction, possibly as soon as January 6.

We are calling on all who hear this call to come to the Sündi NOW!!! Or to join us in the still squatted Hambacher Forest, which lies right next door, and will possibly get invaded by the cops at the same time. Tell your friends, grab a tent, and join us in either of these places if you can! Or make solidarity actions where you are!

Love and rage to the comrades evicted from the Dieti and Grüneheide forest occupations! Now the state makes its move against Sündi – don’t let it be three evictions in these months! Let’s make this eviction attempt a nightmare for the state!!!

No compromise with power! Industrial expansion… NOT ONE STEP FURTHER!!!

In solidarity with all who struggle against domination,
Some creatures living in the Hambi”

DOZENS OF CAGES FOR DECOY BIRDS DESTROYED BY THE ALF.

31st December, North Italy.

ENGLISH (translation):

received anonymously via email:

“NO ONE KNOWS BUT IT WAS THE WOLF WHO TAUGHT LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD TO GO INTO THE WOODS TO FOLLOW THE HUNTER’S TRAIL. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD WHEN HE MET THE HUNTER UNDERSTOOD THAT THE REAL PREDATOR TO BE AFRAID OF WAS NOT THE WOLF. FROM THERE ON LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD BEGAN TO FOLLOW THE ANIMAL’S FOOTSTEPS, WHICH LED HER TO HELLISH PLACES, PRISONS WHERE TENDER LITTLE BIRDS ARE SEGREGATED UNTIL THEY DIE FOR THE PURPOSE OF DECEITFULLY ATTRACTING THEIR FELLOW HUMANS. THE HUNTER, WHO IS AN INFAMOUS AND COWARDLY MAN, HIDES IN SHEDS AND SHOOTS THE LITTLE BIRDS THAT APPROACH DRAWING SADISTIC ENJOYMENT FROM THEM.

ALL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

TO CELEBRATE THE ARRIVAL OF THE NEW YEAR WE WENT TO ONE OF THE MANY SHEDS IN NORTHERN ITALY AND DESTROYED A DOZEN CAGES WHERE THEY ARE LOCKED UP THE BIRDS USED AS LIVE DECOYS, WE TAMPERED WITH THE LOCK OF THE SHED AND WE SOILED IT. THE ALF IS WATCHING AND THERE IS NO PLACE TO HIDE”

GUINEA PIGS LIBERATED IN SOLIDARITY WITH DANIEL SAN DIEGO.

1st January, Midlands UK

Received anonymously via email:

“After some digging we found a large scale breeder of guinea pigs and paid them a visit to check out their operations.

It wasn’t pretty and we were faced with the all too familiar sight of filthy over crowded areas. The dirty behind the scenes of the pet industry.

Not long after arriving we saw a worker walking around so we quickly placed eight guinea pigs into our carriers and absconded before being seen. We could only take as many as we had good homes for and while this means all the world to them it is just a drop in the ocean. You can not comprehend the number of victims involved. These breeders and sellers must be stopped. They will use their bodies like machines and dispose of them once they fall apart enough to no longer be profitable. The daily reality of the animals trapped in these places is a nightmare, especially those who will be used for breeding relentlessly till their body can’t take anymore. The battered parents of the animals you’ll see displayed at your local pet shop.

Endless solidarity to all our comrades behind bars and directly to Daniel Andreas San Diego. Your oppressors are our mutual enemies, be it breeders, vivisectors, farmers or the state. Fuck all cages and the people who make them.

Some anarchists”

CENTRAL PARK ZOO VANDALISED.

5th January, NY USA.

Received anonymously via email:

“I decided to pay a visit to central park animal prison. Thousands of people spend time in this park every day going about their daily lives meanwhile these animals are destined for a lifetime behind bars, away from their natural environments where they are free to roam and live as they are supposed to. I redecorated the signs for accuracy and poured red paint all over the entrance to represent the many deaths lost to this disgusting place after a life in prison. Two coyotes a raccoon and a rat crossed paths with me on my way out eager to see action taken on behalf of animals.  Fuck all prisons. Abolishing them doesn’t stop at only the ones that have human animals inside.”

THE YEAR ROUND UP – 2024 DIRECT ACTION YEAR IN REVIEW.

It is the end of the year, and with it we take the opportunity to look back at the past 12 months, to reminiscence on the campaigns that have pushed forward the animal liberation movement, to celebrate the anonymous actions that helped thousands of animals to freedom and to remember the many ways the state pushed back against people fighting for a better world.

2024 saw a significant increase in reported direct actions to Unoffensive Animal, We received a total of 158 reports (2023 was 99 reports!). It is worth noting that we receive reports mostly in English and from the western world, and that the number is in no way representative of the amount of anonymous actions taken to further animal liberation around the world. Many people decide to not report their actions, and many others might report actions on platforms that we do not know about. It is also important to note that we do not publish open rescues, so those reports are also not included in the total number.

By country, the total number of reported actions for the year is as follows:

UK: 36
Germany: 22
Italy: 21
Denmark: 17
Argentina: 14
France: 14
Australia: 8
Greece: 4
Sweden: 4
USA: 4
Chile: 3
Spain: 3
Ireland: 2
Belgium: 2
Czech Republic: 1
Norway: 1
Malaysia: 1
Serbia: 1

Most of the actions reported were sabotage actions (86), followed by 63 liberations and 9 arsons. By target, hunting was the highest industry to receive the attention of anonymous activists, with 71 reports. Flesh/dairy/eggs/fish and other consumption was the second highest target, at 66 reports in total. Other targets were the pet industry (7 reports), entertainment (6), fur (5) and vivisection (3 actions).

As it has become standards, Germany and France’s numbers came in great part from unreported hunting tower sabotages that had been published in the press, although Germany had a notable February when multiple delayed reports were received about many different animals finding freedom from exploitative farms. Germany also reported a butcher shop sabotage that cost the owner 30k EUR to repair. It is also worth noting Argentina, which shoot up in numbers to 14 when they did not make the list last year! The UK had a big run liberating chickens, but there were reports of arson at a slaughterhouse truck stop and sabotage at a dairy parlour as well as an increase on the targeting of the pet industry. Interestingly in the UK, Dorset seems to have increased in activity, specially in the second half of the year. Greece and Chile competed for the biggest arson this year, burning an egg plant and a bullfighting square respectively. Australia is worth mentioning too, where anonymous activists targeted the political office of Jacinta Allan, who was to blame for the murder of waterfowl, but they also spent some time making hunter’s life impossible when the duck shooting season started. Italy (specially northern Italy!) became a staple of anti hunt activity, but they also reported about the liberation of many farm animals. Notably, after Sonny the Bear was murdered, they too targeted a political office in retaliation. Denmark kept at it with the paint and glue signature dish they’ve been serving up for the past couple of years, where they target butcher shops, restaurants and other exploitative shops to give them a nasty surprise the morning after. France showed solidarity with the MBR acres campaign by liberating two beagles from an MBR farm in Gannat. Lastly on the direct action round up, it was very interesting to see the kick off of direct action under the 12 days of Christmas campaign released by anonymous activists in Scotland, we received a total of 11 related reports in the month of December.

On the prisoner support front we also had quite an eventful year. Jack was arrested and charged of arson after an attack on police vehicles in Atlanta, USA. They were later released and put in house arrest. We will update about their case when we hear anything. From the Atlanta Forest campaign, Victor Puertas was finally released from prison! Snider in Sweden was sentenced to an indefinite amount of time at a mental health clinic after being found guilty of an action against fur farming. We are hopeful he will be released soon. All Susaron prisoners were sentenced after the arson that burnt multiple vehicles and the refrigeration units at a meat packaging plant. Itamar and Turtuga were given 5 and 4 years tag, whilst Panda and ru were sentenced to 5 years in prison. You should write to them, find the address on our website!

After a mink farm raid, Cara and Celeste were arrested. They were kept in jail for a while, but were released on bail. We will keep you informed about any developments on the case.

We organised two fundraisers this year, one for the Susaron prisoners and one for Cara and Celeste, selling t-shirts and prints designed by amazing artists Krime, ZeroFourSixEight, Daisy.lotta, Steveortiz_art and Praxis_vgz.

Daniel Andreas San Diego was arrested in Wales after being wanted by the FBI for 20 years in relation to actions against HLS. We are awaiting for more information about the case and will update you accordingly.

In the miscellaneous corner, Wildfire Magazine Vol.4 was released (and it is so pretty!!!), we turned 8 years old (honestly feeling old!) and NAALPO reported on dozens of fur farms shut in the USA.

Oh, and our website was hacked! That was a fun couple of weeks undoing infected files from the server!

All in all, 2024 felt like a year of ramping up action, of defiance against the speciesist system and of fighting back when the state bites us.

As we wished back in 2022

May 2025 bring either less oppression, or more fighting!

Unoffensive Animal.

12 DAYS OF WHAT?!- DECEMBER DIRECT ACTION ROUND UP.

What a month it’s been. During the month of December we received a total of 17 direct action reports. For the first time this year, most reports were liberations of animals in places of abuse, which changed the tone from a year heavy on sabotage.

By country, the number of reported actions were as follows:

UK: 9
France: 3
Argentina: 2
Italy: 1
Sweden: 1
Ireland: 1

After a Scottish report of a chicken liberation called for autonomous groups to join the ’12 days of Christmas’ call to action, many reports referring to it were received. In France, 24 turkeys were liberated. The UK then released a report about 3 Cornish cross chickens, another report about a reindeer market’s advertisements being ripped down and a third report claiming that Christmas elves had liberated six ducks. France reported another 7 turkeys liberated, some UK anarchists reported on another six turkeys finding freedom, 32 rodent were taken from a pet mill in UK, where a mistreated kitten was also liberated. A video about another 3 turkeys from the UK was released, and then a report telling us about a continuous campaign to shut down a deer farm and shoot in Britain. Italy reported on five decoy bird cages destroyed as a Christmas present to the hunters. Seems that the 12 days of Christmas turned into the 12 days of crime!

On the prisoner support side we reminded folks that writing to prisoners during the holidays is extremely necessary (but lets be frank, you should write to prisoners always), we shut down the preorders for the Cara and Celeste’s tee fundraiser (we are shipping them very soon!!!) and we were delighted to read Dimitria’s words after being acquitted of the violent charges against a hunter.

As always, we will be here to report on all news about direct action in the animal liberation movement. If you can afford it, please donate a few coins to us or even join our patreon if you want to do a monthly donation! We don’t keep any money ourselves, all the funds raised go towards the project and towards prisoner support needs.
