Disclaimer for the feds: Incite, Conspire, Inspire is a solely-for-fun section never designed to give real advice. The tools, tactics and ideas given on the series are only thought to entertain. We would never dream of anyone using any of this tools as a form of dissent and we do not promote, partake in or condone any illegal activities that might derive from said tools.
Helium isn’t just a funny gas that makes you sound silly. It also is a tool for dissent. Today we take a look in the past and get inspired by ACT UP, a collective that worked tirelessly to bring attention to AIDS and HIV+ issues. They flew a giant banner in Grand Central Station (NY) reading “Money for AIDS not for wars” in a protest related to the Gulf War, bringing massive attention to the issue with a few helium balloons, a big fucking banner and a lot of fucking rage.
Tools needed: – Balloons. – Helium cannister. – A BIG banner with your favourite slogan written on it. Ours is “Fuck off” but whatever floats your boat. – Rope. – Some plastic bottles filled with water. – Two wooden rods (or broomsticks or whatever you want) the width of the banner. – That’s it.
Method:
This shit is pretty self explanatory isn’t it? Get that banner painted and dried up (seriously, stop making banners twenty minutes before the demo, they get smudged and you look like you are not a professional anarchist). Attach the rods to the banner with some rope so that the top and bottom of the banner stay straight and don’t fold inwards.
Add a plastic bottle with a little bit of water to the two bottom corners. This will help keep the banner extended all the way down in case the wind moves it around. It might not be necessary if the bottom rod is heavy enough. Test it!
Tie a couple of strings to the bottom of the banner giving yourself two or three metres on each side. This will be helpful during your testing process.
Fill up the balloons and tie them to the top of the banner, testing how many balloons you actually need to lift that big ass flag for freedom. Remember those nice ropes at the bottom of your banner? You can thank me now for not losing your banner to the sky. Take note of the balloons you need and take them off. You can now roll up the banner with the rods included for easy transport. Remove the bottom testing strings unless you want people to easily remove your beautiful banner.
On your trouble making day, fill up fresh balloons. Do a few extras in case some pop or get lost. Tie them in two bunches and leave enough rope to tie them to the banner when you arrive to the location. Once you get to whatever building you want, tie those balloons and release the beast.
Do you want to step it up a notch? Tie some rape alarms to the banner and set them off before releasing the whole system. That will 100% bring attention to what you’ve just done and if done inside of an office building, will annoy everybody immensely. Two for the price of one!
ENVIRONMENTAL DISCLAIMER: Will people please think of the fucking turtles. No seriously, plastic is shit, littering is shit, so littering plastic is .
Do this inside of a building so it cannot fly to the sky. Depending on the building of choice, the business might have to get someone with an air gun to come shoot the balloons down, specially if there are rape alarms attached to it. This is assured havoc.

WHAT: National protest against MBR, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ALF. WHEN: June 21st, 11am WHERE: MBR Acres, Sawtry Way, Huntingdonshire, PE28 2DT, UK.
Folks are calling for a mass demonstration in front of MBR Acres, the beagle breeding facility providing dogs to vivisection laboratories around the UK.
“Past demos have been vibrant and powerful. Every single person was there to stand up for the dogs incarcerated in the filthy, malodorous cesspit known as MBR Acres.
The immoral individuals who exploit the dogs for blood money were left in no doubt of the fury against them. The police in attendance were met with resistance by those who refuse to accept that lawful overrides ethical and moral.
We know that MBR is a place of unspeakable cruelty and neglect. And we know that is just the very beginning of the cruelly mapped out life for every dog bred there.
We are taking on the entire vivisection industry; beginning with MBR Acres.”
Madrid, June 26 and 27 Barcelona, June 28 Amsterdam, July 4 Berlin, July 5 (Information on Sweden, Italy, and England to follow)
Venues and schedule to be confirmed.
TALKS. WORKSHOPS. COLLECTIVE READINGS; TEXT LAUNCHES. ZINES. BOOKS AND MERCH
Thanks to all the comrades who make this possible for their support and solidarity; for us, as impoverished and dispossessed people, this trip is financially challenging, so we’re bringing no merch to support ourselves and to show solidarity with shelters and sanctuaries in our territory. It is a great pleasure for us to be able to converse and act in solidarity with like-minded people from these territories and to expand the struggle for total international liberation (without pretensions or arrogance; we will share our experiences and reflections on the struggle).
According to press, someone broke into a falconry, smashed the gift shop, released 11 birds, then arranged a cow skull and bones and left a slashed falconry glove alongside it:
‘Walter, a four-year-old great horned owl, is one of three birds still missing after a break-in at West Coast Falconry on April 17. Owner Kate Marden has had Walter since he was two days old and says he has no survival skills in the wild.
The three cow skulls had been arranged in a row on a bench. A jawbone sat to one side, hip bones to the other. On the ground directly in front of them, someone had placed an eagle-handling glove, its heavy leather cut and sliced. Someone had worn it to remove a large eagle from its enclosure, then slashed the leather and left it behind.
That was only part of what Kate Marden’s housemate found around 6 a.m. on Friday, April 17, at West Coast Falconry in Browns Valley. In the weight room and the small gift shop, equipment had been damaged. Gloves had been slashed. And in the enclosures where 11 raptors had gone to sleep the night before, the birds were gone. The tracking devices each bird wore had been cut off. The enclosure doors had been closed behind them, so the birds could not return to roost.
“It felt a little symbolic,” said Marden, who has operated the falconry business for 20 years. She paused, then let the thought go. “I don’t know. It was just — ”
While Marden has her suspicions about who was responsible, no one has claimed credit for the break-in and the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified a motive. What Marden is certain of is that the 11 birds had no business being released. All of them, she said, are non-releasable. Some were imprinted on humans as hatchlings and never developed survival skills. Others are injured and some are non-native species from a breeding project.
“It felt like an animal rights kind of thing,” Marden said. “Except that the sad part is that this is sentiment, not science.” ‘
“While out for a walk in the Cotswolds, I came across a Larsen trap with a crow locked inside, being used as a lure.
I had to work quickly and quietly as the trap was right outside the gamekeeper’s house, and it was clear someone was home. I untied the piece of string holding the trap shut, opened the hatch, and reached in for the bird.
Luckily, she knew I was helping, and allowed me to check her wings hadn’t been cut (which often happens to prevent the bird from flying away if they escape. Her wings were intact, and my soul filled with love as I watched her fly high and free.
As swiftly as I could, I dragged the trap behind a hedge and stamped on it, ensuring no other birds will suffer inside it. Traps like these are all over the countryside: seek and destroy.”

April has been a big month for the British grassroots Animal Freedom movement.
First up came the news that Oxford Greyhound Track has closed! This is a huge blow to an industry that is racing itself into the ground. This latest closure is a result of the track owner falling into debt with their broadcaster, SIS. In a struggling industry, with just 17 tracks remaining (down from a peak of 300), SIS couldn’t afford the dead weight and cut Oxford loose, leaving them unable to operate. To ensure this truly is the beginning of the end, a new pressure campaign has been launched to urge SIS to cut ties with what remains of the greyhound racing industry. Next came an epic ten-day convergence of activists and groups, including CAFT (Campaign to Abolish the Fur Trade), AAC (Animal Activism Collective) and others, in London. The event started with dozens of activists inside Louis Vuitton on Bond Street, while nearly a hundred more occupied the street outside, and closed down every single fur retailer on the street.
The convergence coincided with the launch of a campaign to get Visa to drop sponsorship of Milan Fashion Week. After a number of run-ins, home demos, and satellite actions across the world, it came as little surprise that the multi-billion-dollar company announced it was pulling its sponsorship almost as soon as the convergence wrapped up. This was the second major victory that week, as on the first day of the convergence, Etsy announced they were ending all fur sales on its platform. MBR Acres, the notorious puppy factory farm in Cambridgeshire that breeds dogs for the UK research industry, was dealt quite the blow in early April when not just one but both its insurance providers cut its cover. They were followed by MBR’s auditors at the end of the month. This has caused a noticeable reaction from MBR, who have been complaining to the government that they’ll leave the country since last May. Morale is at an all-time low, and both MBR and the British state are struggling with how to keep this failing company in the UK. Our advice? Shut the door on your way out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mbrsuppliers
For the first time in over a decade, Animal Aid have released undercover footage from inside two British laboratories, showing the gruesome fate of the MBR beagles, as well as many other animals, including monkeys, pigs, and rabbits. The footage is truly horrifying and demonstrates exactly why we need to close down MBR and this entire industry once and for all. https://www.toxicity.inc/gb
Dorset Animal Action have secured a great local victory this month, after a member of the public filmed the ‘owner’ of Bournemouth Goats violently dragging animals down a busy street. Bournemouth Goats were licensed by the local council to graze the clifftops and exhibit non-consenting animals at local events. Following a brief but powerful campaign by DAA, supported by Animal Aid, which gained national media attention, the council revoked Bournemouth Goat’s license to publicly exhibit animals at events: https://www.instagram.com/dorsetanimalaction
Since the 1970’s, April 24th has been recognised as World Day for Animals in Laboratories. Thanks to the FEAT (Finally Ending Animal Testing) campaign, this is now a full month of FEAT actions, including street theatre, banner drops, letter-writing events, and protests, taking place throughout April. The annual World Day march is usually held on the nearest Saturday to the 24th, but activists from the Manchester Animal Rights Network (MARN) got ahead of the game, with 50 campaigners gathering in Manchester to hold lively protests outside (and inside) suppliers of MBR Acres: https://www.instagram.com/manchesteranimalrightsnetwork
Two days later was the World Day march itself, which this year took to the streets of London. 400 people marched from Trafalgar Square to DSIT, the government department which is currently conspiring to keep MBR Acres open. A sea of noise, signs, and defiance, the march held Westminster to account for lying about their plans to ‘phase out’ testing on animals, before heading for the Home Office. This is where all animal testing licences are granted! London was left in no doubt that testing on animals will end, and that it’s our generation that will end it. Next year’s World Day has already been confirmed for Saturday, 24th April, outside of LabCorp in Huntingdon. Mark it in your diaries!
